MOHAMED ABOUTRIKA AND THE GAZA CONFLICT

Aboutrika is not the name of drugs or even name bland of car, this is the name of the Egyptian football player called Mohamed aboutrika.

Aboutrika who was playing midfielder, born November 7, 1978 in Giza Egypt, according to Wikipedia, started to play football in age of 12 years old, playing football in the streets and honing his skills.

Aboutrika who is a grandaunt in Cairo University with Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy, he played in Egypt with the Tersana, Al-Zamalek, Al- Ahly and in 2003/2004 league become a second place between top scorers in Egyptian league by scoring 14 goals.

Aboutrika must be the most upstanding and honorable football star on the planet... He is a blessed footballer and a blessed man - too bad FIFA have overlooked one of the greatest living players simply because he doesn't play in Europe, shame on them, corrupt organization that they are.

According to the YouTube, Aboutrika defended his actions in Egypt’s group stage match against Sudan after he was warned by the confederation of African football for revealing a t-shirt in support of Gaza as a part of a goal celebration.

Some Arab commentators describe this yellow card as an 'honorable punishment' for any athlete. In Gaza, Palestinian people went out, raising Aboutrika's photos thanking him and appreciating his act. The same scene was replied after the final match, when Aboutrika scored the winning goal for Egypt, many Palestinians went out to celebrate the victory and singing for Aboutrika. Al-Hilal club in the Gaza Strip made an honoring ceremony for Aboutrika, where youth team players lift flags reading "Palestine loves Aboutrika",

Aboutrika initially did not want to discuss the issue, but he broke his silence and spoke exclusively Al Jazeera's Carrie Brown. He said that his action was a personal statement from himself, as he feels quite sympathy with children of Gaza Strip who are under siege, he feels sorry for their starving and suffering, and has many worries about their safety. Aboutrika affirmed for the Egyptian Football Federation that he is responsible for any problems appearing on surface

THE MORE I ATTEND THE WORKSHOP THE MORE I LEARN MORE

“The more I attend the workshop the more I get a lot”, this is what I have discovered this after get a lot from my facilitator. Today is a third day of our training, since we started this short course of internet training, am starting to see the light it searching information from different websites

As usually I attended the workshop place early and start to open different websites and reviewing of what we learnt last day before the facilitator began training. The topic of today is internet as a tool in journalism. The workshop facilitator, Piek Johansson trained us on how to access information from different websites.

Apart from abroad website, he tought us on how to see our local newspapers like ipp medeia, new habari ,freemedia, mwanacnchi, the arusha times, global publishers, uhuru and startv.

He advised us also when we write our stories; we have to put on our contact in order t to let readers to comment.

“Most of journalists do not put their telephone or e mail address on the end of their stories, and even radio or TV presenters don’t mention their telephone numbers for comment or advice” said Johansson.

“How many of you visit t the Tanzania national website?” Johansson asked us. Only two people among us visit it, this means that we don’t have habit of visiting our website or we were not aware on that site. The Tanzania national site is www.tanzania.go.tz, in this you can find a lot like national information, union government, banking services, mass media and many more.

Another site that make happy is http://www.jamiiforums.com/, really surprised on this site, here you can find almost what you are looking for like what is going on in Tanzania, music information like bongo flavor, taarabu, and zilipendwa and gospel songs. Apart from those you can ask question which you are interest to know about

Other news sites those we have learnt today are http://www.ipsnews.net/, http://www.nation.co.ke/, http://www.allafrica.com/, http://www.ajol.info/, and sport sites are http://www.fifa.com/, http://www.uefa.com/, http://www.cafonline.com/,

We learnt also on how to know capital cities on different countries .

JOURNALIST IN THE AGE OF INTERNET

By Phillip Bugobora,
Journalist in the age of the internet, this was the main topic of workshop which taking place at TGDLC, IFM building in dare s salaam.

The workshop started yesterday which will be run for five days from Monday to Friday this week. The participants are editors and trainers from deferent media.

Peik Johansson started by teaching the participants on how to blog the websites, he trained the participant by using a quote of the speech of Rupert Murdoch to the American society of newspaper editors.

He asked the participants to read the the whole speech and come up with their own comment concerning to the topic which says "journalist in the age of internet”

“ That is manifestly not true of the internet. And all of our papers are living proof. I venture to say that not one newspaper represented in this room lacks a website. Yet how many of us can honestly say that we are taking maximum advantage of those websites to serve our readers, to strengthen our businesses, or to meet head-on what readers increasingly say is important to them in receiving their news?

“Despite this, I’m still confident of our future, both in print and via electronic delivery platforms. The data may show that young people aren’t reading newspapers as much as their predecessors, but it doesn’t show they don’t want news. In fact, they want a lot of news, just faster news of a different kind and delivered in a different way

“They want news that speaks to them personally, that affects their lives. They don’t just want to know how events in the Mid-east will affect the presidential election; they want to know what it will mean at the gas-pump. They don’t just want to know about terrorism, but what it means about the safety of their subway line, or whether they’ll be sent to Iraq. And they want the option to go out and get more information, or to seek a contrary point of view.” Said some of the Murdoch’s speech.
